Then there's just little bits of cleanup, like the steam games being mapped to D is fine, but you can now delete the steam launcher from D if you want. You can switch locations game by game later if you want to try one on C. This is painless in steam and battlenet for sure, just google it. A bit quicker off the SSD but I only put Office, small programs, Steam client, BattleNet, etc. Having an SSD OS drive makes everything faster so don't worry about cramming everything onto C: it will be blazing fast loading off the HDD now as well (a lot of that feeling of responsiveness has to do with OS efficiency).

Once windows is up and running go ahead and install whatever you want. You won't have a problem re-installing the OS, even if it is an OEM version, since the motherboard etc. Unplug power to the HDD (important so you get drive letter C:)īoot up and install windows on the SSD.
What I would do, assuming the current HDD is C drive and we will now be making the SSD drive C instead:
